Hi beautiful souls, here I want to share with you my favorite longboard spots in Bali that have completely stolen my heart. After countless dawn patrols and sunset sessions, I've discovered some truly magical waves that are perfect for the art of longboarding.
DRY SEASON GEMS (MARCH - NOVEMBER)
Medewi: the raw beauty of west Bali
West Bali | Left-hander | Intermediate - advanced
Oh my goodness, Medewi - this wave has my heart! Imagine peeling lefts that seem to go on forever (we're talking 300+ meters of pure bliss). It's like the wave was designed specifically for longboarders, with perfectly timed sections that just beg you to walk to the nose. Not your beginner-friendly wave, Medewi is a spot for those who appreciate raw surf experiences. The rock bottom demands respect and skill, making it a challenge.
The best part? The vibe here is pure magic. Away from the hustle of Canggu, you'll find yourself surfing with maybe just a handful of others passionate surfers. Yes, it's a 2-hour drive from Canggu, but trust me, those sunrise sessions with glassy conditions will make you forget all about the early wake-up call.
Batu Bolong: my absolute favorite
West Bali | Rights and lefts | All levels
This is THE spot. My heart belongs to Batu Bolong - it's where everything just feels perfect. On a good day, when the tide is pushing in and the wind is just right, you'll find some of the most playful walls perfect for practicing your cross-steps. I've spent countless mornings here, watching the sun rise over Mount Agung while sharing waves with both local legends and stoked beginners. My favorite thing is to get here for dawn patrol to catch the wave at its best. There's nothing quite like those glassy morning conditions when it's just you and a few early birds in the lineup.
Kedungu: the magic of the surf community
West Bali | Rights and lefts | All levels
Kedungu is the definition of a relaxed, family-friendly surf spot. Similar to Batu Bolong in wave quality, but with its own unique, hyper-relaxed vibe. This is where I host my next longboard workshop, and there's a reason why I chose this spot. Just 15 minutes from the buzz of Canggu lies this little slice of heaven that feels worlds away from everything. With three distinct peaks offering different wave shapes, it's like having multiple surf spots in one. It's a perfect spot for practicing everything from basic turns to stylish noserides. And when you're ready to level up, the cliff-side peak delivers some steeper sections that'll help push your longboarding to new heights.
Kedungu is accessible, family-friendly, and have nearby accommodations like Little Ripper, a little coffee shop and boutique hotel, where I love to hang and feel at home.
Kuta: the unpredictable longboard playground
West Bali | Rights and lefts | All levels
Not my favorite spot, to be honest. Kuta can be moody and unpredictable. If you're planning to surf here, my strongest advice is to get a local coach who knows the spot inside and out. The waves don't work all the time, and understanding the precise tide and conditions is better. While it can offer some good longboarding opportunities during mid to high tide, it requires local knowledge and patience. The spot can get crowded but the vibe is always welcoming, making it an ideal spot for those just starting their surfing journey.
WET SEASON (DECEMBER-FEBRUARY)
Serangan: the wet season wonder
East Bali | Rights and lefts | Intermediate - advanced
When the wet season winds start blowing and the west coast gets choppy, Serangan becomes our sanctuary! This spot is such a blessing during these months. It's like nature's perfect design with its crystal-clear waters and protected location. What I absolutely love about Serangan is how it manages to stay clean and organized even when the rest of Bali's spots are blown out. The waves here peel so perfectly over the reef, giving you these gorgeous long rides that feel like they go on forever. Keep an eye on the tide here - I've found that incoming mid-tide usually offers the most user-friendly conditions for longboarding. And don't forget to bring your reef booties if you're not comfortable with reef breaks!
Jasri: the hidden gem
East Bali | Right-hander | Intermediate
Oh Jasri, my little secret spot in East Bali! Away from the crowds and tourist buzz, Jasri offers this incredible right-hander, rolling waves ideal for longboarders. The wave here has this perfect combination of power and grace - enough push to keep you gliding, but mellow enough to let you work on your style. What makes it even more special is the backdrop - traditional fishing boats dotting the horizon, local children playing on the beach, and some of the friendliest locals you'll ever meet in the lineup. Jasri is all about tranquility and connecting with Bali’s natural beauty, expect uncrowded sessions and a peaceful vibe.
Secret spots
Some of my absolute favorite waves in Bali are the ones you won't find on any map or guidebook. These hidden gems are what make the island truly special, places where you can still find that pure, untouched magic that drew me to Bali in the first place.
Want to discover these secret spots? Join me for my next "Surf & Soul" longboard workshop from March 1-6, 2025! You'll spend 5 intensive days reseting your mind, reconnecting with your soul, unlocking your full potential and connecting with an amazing community of soul surfers.
Until then, keep dancing on those waves!
With love,
